Reviews from our Piano Students
Claire's performance at APS Recital
"I have previously sent my two older girls to a music school and both stopped at Grade 5, as they found the lessons boring and difficult. With my third daughter Claire, who has been learning piano with Simon, the result is quite different. Simon is patient and yet firm. I could see that Claire’s liking for the piano and focus have improved under the coaching of Simon and she is now at Grade 7 with no signs of stopping.
Simon knows when to push and let go with kids. He customizes his teaching based on the kid’s interest and ability to sustain their interest. I highly recommend Simon to parents with active young kids just starting music"

Colette, Parent Of Secondary 1 Student, Classical Piano Grade 7

“Everyone has a different learning style and Simon always thinks of the best way for me to learn as an individual. His patience, professionalism and effort into every lesson not only motivates but also makes the learning journey much easier."

""Starting as a beginner, it has been fun and fulfilling to take piano lessons from Simon. Simon is both firm and encouraging in his teaching, and offers various tips and methods to learning theory, music pieces, and working on weakness areas. I appreciate the weekly task list that Simon provides, which guides me in self-practice outside of lesson. There is flexibility in learning a mix of classical and pop tunes. Online Zoom lessons have also been working well for me.
Overall, it’s the first time I saw progress for myself after unsuccessfully trying to self-learn previously, and I would recommend Simon as a teacher for beginner adult players looking to embark on their piano journey.""

FAQs on Piano Lessons
-
What’s a Good Age to Start Piano Lessons? Most children are ready to begin piano lessons around the age of 5 or 6, once they’ve developed basic comprehension, attention span, and communication skills. At this stage, they’re better able to follow instructions, absorb musical concepts, and enjoy the learning process. That said, it’s never too late to start. Many adult learners begin with no prior experience and make excellent progress with the right guidance. Our teachers tailor the approach to suit each student’s age, background, and learning pace.
-
Do You Offer ABRSM or Graded Piano Exams Preparations?Yes, we offer preparation for the ABRSM graded piano exams. Lessons can be tailored to cover all components of the ABRSM syllabus, including pieces, scales, sight-reading, and aural training. While we do not offer Trinity exam preparation, students who pursue ABRSM will receive structured guidance aligned with the latest requirements.
-
How Much Are Piano Lessons at Alpha Piano Studio? Our lesson fees start at $360 per month for four 45-minute sessions, or $400 per month for four 60-minute sessions. Lessons are held once a week and tailored to the student’s level and goals.
-
How Long Does It Take to Learn the Piano?Learning the piano is a long-term process that depends on your goals, consistency, and how much practice you’re willing to put in. Some students begin playing simple pieces within a few months, while others may spend years refining more advanced skills like improvisation, interpretation, or technique. At Alpha Piano Studio, we focus on steady, meaningful progress — not shortcuts. Whether you're learning for enjoyment or aiming for higher-level fluency, we’ll guide you with a clear and structured path at a pace that suits you.
-
Can I Learn To Play The Piano on My Own?It’s possible to start learning piano on your own, especially with today’s access to online tutorials and resources. However, self-teaching often comes with gaps — in technique, rhythm, or musical understanding — that can be hard to notice without feedback. Having a teacher helps you build a stronger foundation, avoid common mistakes, and progress with clarity. If you’re serious about learning, structured lessons can make a big difference in how confidently and consistently you improve.
